A Gathering Of Eagers – A Book As A Guide To Locate & Engage Scientists In Projects To Assist In Developing PH Agriculture
Surprise! The PH Department of Agriculture (DA) is the Turtle (Tortoise) in the famous Aesop’s Fable race while Climate Change is the Rabbit (Hare)!
By law, May is “Farmers’ And Fisherfolk’s Month” via
Presidential Proclamation 33 that Corazon
C Aquino signed in 1989. Some 35 years later, have the lives of farmers
and fishers improved? Good question!
According to ANN (20
May 2024, Author Not Named, “DA Pays Tribute To Farmers And Fisherfolk In FFM
Opening Ceremony 2024,” Department of Agriculture):
The Department of Agriculture (DA) acknowledged
the vital contributions of farmers and fishers to a thriving and prosperous
economy as it kicked off the celebration of the 2024 Farmers’ and Fisherfolk’s
Month at the DA Central Office on 20 May 2024.
Did you see that?! The whole PH DA is 19 days
late in celebrating something that is of national importance!
The more important consideration is: “Do we now
have “a thriving and prosperous economy”? No Sir!
Agriculture Secretary Francisco P Tiu Laurel “encouraged
everyone to support these food heroes through various DA initiatives, including
the modernization and mechanization of agriculture.”
I note: “including
the modernization and mechanization of agriculture.” Question: “How modern and
mechanized is PH Agriculture today?” Answer: “Problematic!”
To help “in
sustaining a vibrant economy,” I am thinking of writing, editing and desktop
publishing a volume of ready-to-serve Philippine scientists in helping deliver
much-needed expertise in projects that are intended to help Filipino farmers
progress from poverty to prosperity. The book I’m thinking is titled:
Scientists In Agriculture For Generating Environmental
Sustainability (SAGES).
Note the first 4 words
of the title of this essay: “A Gathering Of Eagers” – the scientists included
in the pages of SAGES are eager to serve their country if appropriately called
upon!
In the above occasion, Mr Tiu Laurel Jr said:
We
must continue supporting and empowering our food producers, processors, and
other agri-fishery stakeholders by modernizing and mechanizing Philippine
agriculture.
Exactly! But since there
is no written national plan of Mission,
Vision & Mission For PH Agriculture, the DA has to come out with
one!
And the scientists in my SAGES book are ready to
serve their country – initially by helping in developing that national plan.
“A
book is a gift you can open again and again” (“Book” image above from dreamstime.com).
If you are into agriculture development via the concepts of “poverty
alleviation” (Philippines) and “vibrant agriculture” (World Bank), concerned about the poverty of farmers and
fishers anywhere in the Philippines, the book I’m thinking should be for you. [Now you know
why I have a new blog, “Scientists in Agriculture for Generating Environmental
Sustainability” (SAGES).]
Once published, I will offer the book SAGES for information
about career scientists in the Philippines ready to serve in any research &
development (R&D) project anywhere in the islands.
The PH Department of Agriculture needs very capable managers from national down to local levels – and needs very able scientists to conduct projects in R&D. Wake up, PH DA!@517
